Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker Wins Top Prize At The 76th Venice International Film Festival

“I want to thank Warner Bros. and DC for stepping out of their comfort zone and taking such a bold swing on me and this movie." said Todd Phillips as he received an award for his comic book film, Joker at the 76th Venice International Film Festival. The award was announced by jury president Lucretia Martel during the ceremony. Joaquin Phoenix starrer, Joker has been grabbing all the attention at several prestigious award functions. Actor Joaquin Phoenix who was present by his side as Todd received the award, did not win the best actor award instead the trophy was taken home by Luca Marinelli for the movie Jack London, an adaptation of Martin Eden.
Talking about Joker – in the movie Joaquin Phoenix is shown to transform from a standup comedian named Arthur Fleck to action hero Batman's enemy. Both Todd and Joaquin were seen all suited up for the evening looking all dapper and handsome. On this occasion Todd thanked Joaquin for trusting him for his insane talents. The award ceremony took place on Saturday. After receiving the trophy, Todd was clicked with Joaquin on the stage, beaming with joy and happiness.
The jury was headed by Argentine director Martel, director Mary Harron, actress Stacy Martin, cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto and executive director Piers Handling.
The festival also honoured people from other innovative categories such as Venice Classics, Virtual Reality and Horizons.
Movie An Officer and a Spy, was awarded with grand jury prize helmed by Roman Polanski, which was one of the strong contenders at the award night.
